Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to
apply for a Hong Kongese Visa.
- Duly-completed visa application form and Declaration Form, together with two recent passport photos
- Applicant’s passport copy—bio-data pages
- Original Certificate of Incorporation
- Original introduction letter from applicant’s company (to be signed and stamped) to state clearly the purpose of visit, duration of stay, applicant’s name, present position and passport number, sponsor’s name, address and telephone number in Hong Kong.
- Original invitation letter from applicant’s sponsor in Hong Kong
- Proof of applicant’s financial standing—original and correct company’s bank statement (latest 3 – 6 months)
- Details of previous visit to Hong Kong, if applicable
- Copy of all the above-mentioned documents
- Proof of payment of visa fee ($50)

Hong Kong is one of the two Special Administrative Regions of the People’s Republic of China. Originally a sparsely populated area of farming and fishing villages, Hong Kong is now one of the most densely populated places in the world, having over 7.4 million people of several nationalities.
Being a former British colony and officially a part of China, Hong Kong has both English and Cantonese as its official language. It is classified as an alpha+ global city because it has influence throughout the world. As a region with the largest number of skyscrapers and estimated to be the world’s tenth-largest exporter, it is no surprise that Hong Kong is a major tourism destination for Asians and the rest of the world.
Greeting locals by saying “Nei-ho” in Hong Kong, (which means “hello” in Cantonese) will surely gain you some points as it shows that you respect their local culture.

Hong Kong Tourist Visa Eligibility &
Requirements
- This is the type of visa issued to persons who intend to visit Hong Kong for tourism purposes. You can also visit family and friends while on this visa.
- All visitors to Hong Kong must carry a valid passport. Tourist visa holders are not allowed by law to take up employment (paid or unpaid), to establish or join in any business, or to enter school as a student. Only in the most unusual of circumstances are visitors allowed to change their immigration status after arrival.
- Applicants seeking this visa need to submit an invitation letter from a family member or host living in Hong Kong. This letter should clearly state the address and contact details of the host, as well as your relationship with them.
- During the visa application, you will need to provide proof of sufficient funds to last the duration of your stay. The Hong Kong tourist visa is valid for only 90 days. You are advised to exit the country before your visa expires.
- To shorten the processing time, application forms and supporting documents can be sent by fax at first. However, original copies of the duly completed application forms and the photographs need to be sent by air mail.
Hong Kong Business Visa Eligibility &
Requirements
- This is the type of visa issued to Nigerians traveling to Hong Kong for business purposes.
- You will need to provide an invitation letter from the Hong Kong company you will be visiting.
- This letter will also contain their detailed address, accompanied with the date and actual purpose of your trip.
- If the intention is to attend a meeting or seminar, confirmation/invitation from the conference organizer/institution is required.
- If you are employed, you will have to present a certificate from your employer stating or allowing your business travel.
- Your bank statement from the last 6 months is needed.
- Self-employed people will submit proof of business registration.
- It must be made clear whether your trip will be sponsored by the employer or the local company.
- All visa documents should be sent to the Hong Kong Immigration Department for approval.
- Visa processing time varies. The Chinese Embassy or Consulate should issue the visa according to the reply from the Hong Kong Immigration.
- Applicants are advised to always use working emails and phone numbers during their applications.
Hong Kong Student Visa Eligibility &
Requirements
- A foreigner who wants to stay and study in Hong Kong will require either a student visa or a student residence permit.
- Student visas are handled very much like work visas. To get a student visa, your sponsoring educational institution will need to apply for the visa on your behalf.
- To apply for entry to Hong Kong for study, the applicant should nominate a local sponsor. This can be the educational institution granting the acceptance for admission or an individual over 18 years old living in Hong Kong.
- Your educational institution or University might help find a local sponsor for you.
- The validity of the student visa, if granted, will be in line with the normal duration of the study programme. To apply for a visa, your passport must be valid for six months or more from the date of intended entry.
- Applicants must be able to provide proof that they have sufficient funds to last them the duration of their study.
- The passport photograph used during application must not be more than 6 months old.
- Both Form ID 995A and Form ID 995B which can be downloaded online must be completed and signed by the applicant.
- To prove that you can afford your education and living expenses while in Hong Kong, applicants are required to declare a proof of funds of up to HK$120,000.
Hong Kong Work Visa Eligibility &
Requirements
- If you’re planning on taking a job in Hong Kong, you need to get a work permit first.
- To get an employment visa you must have a job in a sponsoring company that is willing to employ you and carry out the application process for your permit.
- The sponsoring company has to prove that you have the necessary skills for the job and that a local worker could not fill the position.
- When granting work visas, the Immigration Department considers the applicant’s education, job experience and other factors.
- The application for your work visa is not submitted by you, but by your future employer.
- The company has to submit a confirmed offer of employment, and proof that the remuneration package includes salary, accommodation, medical and educational provisions, as well as other benefits appropriate for professionals in Hong Kong.
- The application process takes four to six weeks, after which the entry visa is issued to your employer, who would then forward it to you.
- Once you get your visa, you can apply for residency for your spouse and children as well.
