Home In The Wild Nat Geo Family With Adventurer Tori and Jim Baird

Home in the Wild family consists of Jim Baird with his wife Tori Baird and two kids. Home in the Wild is the newest adventurer series of National Geographic.

The series premiered on Tuesday, May 2 at 10/9c on National Geographic. It will be available to stream on Disney Plus on May 31.

Fans of typical adventure series will certainly not be disappointed with Home in the Wild as the show hits all those familiar dramas that have become a genre trademark.

The new show is a bit more playful than most others in the genre. It documents the whole family as they go along for the adventure with fun, energy, and a joking tone in certain moments.

In addition, the pair, especially Jim, offers a much lighter and more humorous approach than the typical hosts of this type of show.

There is also a fair amount of baby talk, which is obvious with young kids playing such a big role.

Meet The Home In The Wild Family

Home in the Wild family includes Jim Baird, his wife Tori Baird, and their two sons. They are the stars of the new Nat Geo adventure show.

Jim and Tori are a married couple with two kids leading their life, adventuring into the backcountry. After dating for quite a while, the pair tied the knot in September 2017.

Marking the big day on September 19, 2017, Jim Baird shared several wedding pictures on his Facebook.

He captioned the post, “This past Saturday, I locked it down with this amazing and beautiful best friend of mine.” He also thanked Mary Thorn Photography for the great photos.

When Tori first met Jim, she thought he was outdoorsy. But when she actually got to know him and his extreme adventure, she realized she was not nearly as outdoorsy as she thought she was.

“I almost killed her, both of us on our first-ever canoe trip,” said Baird to National Geographic. Later, they went on more trips again and again.

She found herself committed to this adventurous lifestyle after tripping with him for so long. Now, she can paddle her own canoe, split wood, get a fire going, clean a fish, and many more.

Tori says every day with her husband is a new adventure. Their lifestyle is a little more extreme than any average person’s life.

They are parents to two wonderful kids

The Bairds are the proud parents of two boys -Wesley (born on July 2, 2018) and Hudson (August 31, 2021).

Wesley was born with a rare genetic syndrome -a misspelling of the FOX G1. The condition creates many physical and mental challenges for him and his life.

As he was their first child, Tori was following the milestone apps really religiously. Months passed, but the kid was still not sitting up, crawling, or rolling over. He started having seizures at about 13 months.

When they went for an appointment, the doctors said they have to wait for the genetics counselor. So right away, they knew it was bad.

They even thought their days of professional adventuring were over when Wesley was diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder.

But after learning from doctors that being involved in nature could benefit their son’s growth, they take him and his little brother on expeditions into the backcountry.

The pair hope that their off-grid life will be beneficial for their family.

They have discussed with pediatricians and specialists about the trips they do with Wes and it’s been reiterated to them, “The more you can get him out there, the better it will be for his development.”

Jim Baird Is An Adventurer

Baird is a professional adventurer, athlete, freelance filmmaker, writer, photographer, husband, and father.

People may remember him as the winner of History Channel’s Alone Season 4. He and his brother were the first Canadians to win, surviving 75 days through the fall and winter on Vancouver Island.

He used his share of the awarded money from winning the show to purchase a house along Ontario’s Magnetewan River.

Ever since he was a kid, he wanted to live in an area that was remote beyond civilization. He has a deep love for nature and navigates through remote places on self-guided multi-week expeditions.

He loves sharing his insane adventures through captivating video, photography, writing, and speaking.

Some of his extreme trips include a month-long canoe in northern Quebec and Labrador on the Adlatok River, a few-week trip to the Kuujjua River, and along the Arctic coast.

Moreover, he traveled 300 miles north of the Arctic Circle and went on a 36-day solo trip to cross the northern Ungava Peninsula in the chilling winter.

Jim also contributes to magazines and digital media platforms, including Canoe & Kayak, Field & Stream, Outdoor Canada, Explore, Paddling Magazine, and BeAlive.

He has worked on short-term video projects with Cineflix Productions, The Weather Network, Discovery Channel, BBC Worldwide, and A+E Networks. Baird was a talent and producer on Alone Season 4.

Tori Baird is An Entrepreneur

Tori is an avid canoeist, backcountry adventurer, and entrepreneur living in Magnetawan, Ontario, with her family. She is originally from Newmarket, Ontario.

She has been canoeing for over a decade. Baird has paddled in some intense remote white-water rivers with her hubby and has navigated some of Ontario’s most challenging rivers.

The biggest and most remote trips she has done include the East Natashquan in Northern Quebec, the Mountain River in the Northwest Territories, and the Porcupine in Northern Saskatchewan.

She was so inspired by her experiences on canoe trips that she launched a business to teach women how to paddle their canoes, empowering them to get out into the backcountry.

Tori now runs Paddle Like a Girl, an outdoor skill-building and canoeing workshop for women.

Initially, she wanted to become a canoeing guide, but she did not have the certification. So, Baird decided to introduce women to paddling and do introductory paddling workshops on their property.

Paddle Like A Girl offers canoeing workshops in most of southern and central Ontario.

The workshops include exciting events for mothers and daughters and women over 50. Most customers prefer the Magnetawan venue, where they find it fun to experience a getaway weekend with friends.

Baird shared that many women also enjoy the convenience of having workshops done near their residences.

As an outdoorsy, Baird likes to test her limits and challenge herself. She enjoys running rapids, going for a long solo paddle, hiking with her toddlers, splitting woods, and simply running.
