Who is Harry Slade?
Harry Slade is the son of Richard Slade, who will be running the London marathon on October 3, following his father’s cancer diagnosis. Harry Slade is from Manchester, United Kingdom.
In May 2020, Harry got to know about his father’s cancer diagnosis. At first, he was in total denial but later, his father convinced him through it. Richard has Pancreatic cancer, which is one of the most brutal forms of cancer. It is very difficult to diagnose, and when confirmed it’s already too late for the patient. Richard and his family now have passed the denial stage and have accepted the bitter truth.
Richard, a doctor himself
Harry’s father, Richard Slade, is a consultant gynecological surgeon at The Christie, a leading international center for cancer treatment and care in Manchester. He is associated with the hospital since 1955. Richard undertook a complex operation last summer that removed some of the cancer-infected parts.
Dealing with cancer patients every day at the workplace has changed his way of perceiving the disease. He has accepted the situation and has a positive perspective towards it.
Currently, he is taking drugs and having regular follow-ups with his doctor at The Christie.
About Harry running Marathon for The Christie
Harry is running the marathon for The Christie charity and the fund raised will be well utilized for the patients in The Christie in upcoming days.
“I’m incredibly proud of Harry for running the London Marathon for The Christie,” said Richard. Harry is planning to raise £5000 from the marathon.
With an aching heart, he said “Raising that much would be very emotional for me, knowing that it will fund further research projects which although they might potentially be too late for dad will help families in the same position in the future.”
Harry started running from his final year of university.
The London Marathon
The London Marathon is an annual marathon event held in London, United Kingdom. The London Marathon is a very special event that brings runners altogether to run for their specific purpose.
This is not the first time Harry is participating in the marathon. He ran his first London Marathon in 2019 and managed to complete the race in less than three and a half hours. He is practicing fairly to complete the race before the last time.
