Gretchen Harrington Case Details
Joanna Falcone Sullivan, a Delaware County native, was interested in the 48-year-old cold case of 8-year-old Gretchen Harrington’s murder.
In collaboration with Mike Mathis, she authored a crime book titled “Marple’s Gretchen Harrington Tragedy: Kidnapping, Murder, and Innocence Lost in Suburban Philadelphia,” which delved into the mystery.
The book, released last year, aimed to bring attention to the tragic case and potentially lead to a breakthrough.
Their efforts seemed to bear fruit when 83-year-old David Zandstra, a former pastor at Harrington’s church during her disappearance, was arrested in Georgia on Monday.
This development surprised and excited Sullivan, who the case had haunted since her childhood in Broomall, Delaware County, where Gretchen was kidnapped.
The actual crime book sparked conversations and cooperation with the Marple Police Department, possibly contributing to the arrest after almost five decades.
Sullivan plans to update the book to include details about the arrest and any new information as the case unfolds.
