Gong Lijiao is a Chinese shot putter who won the gold medal in the Olympics event on Sunday, August 1, 2021, at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
An internet reaction was generated by a Chinese state media interview with the Olympic gold medalist asking when she would get married and have kids.
She was also referred to as a “manly woman” in the CCTV program with Gong Lijiao, who took first place in the women’s shot put final on Sunday.
The interview has drawn criticism from online users who labeled it misogynistic and narrow-minded.
With the hashtag “Is marriage the only thing that can be mentioned about women?” they had online discussions about it.
Many people have expressed opposition to what they view as ingrained expectations of Chinese women as well as out-of-date notions of femininity and beauty as a result of the questions.
