Gladbeck Hostage Crisis: Who Is Dieter Degowski And Where Is He Now?

In August 1988, a growing hostage scenario in Gladbeck, Germany, had everyone on edge. Dieter Degowski and Hans-Jürgen Rösner went on a 54-hour killing rampage that culminated in a bloodbath.

Using archival television footage and, strangely enough, real-time interviews with the outlaws themselves, Netflix’s ‘Gladbeck: The Hostage Crisis’ captures the crime as it occurred.

On June 8, 2022, Netflix published Gladbeck: The Hostage Crisis, a true-crime documentary. The hostage crisis occurred in West Germany in 1988, and the documentary is fully based on authentic media and CCTV video.

Who is Dieter Degowski?

Dieter Degowski is a 34-year-old bank robber who collaborated with Hans-Jürgen Rösner. Hans was a 31-year-old man who fled from prison two years ago on vacation.

When the criminals hijacked a bus, Hans’ girlfriend Marion Löblich joined them. However, she was apprehended by authorities at a rest break.

This infuriated Dieter, who threatened to kill a captive if Marion did not return within five minutes. When the cops arrived, Dieter carried out his threat and shot 15-year-old Emanuele di Giorgi in the head.

When all of this happened, Dieter was under the effects of booze and amphetamines. He was described as unpredictable in the documentary.

Where Is Gladbeck Hostage Crisis Robber Today 2022?

The regional superior court of Essen found Rösner and Degowski guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment on March 22, 1991.

According to experts, Dieter had exhibited signs of rehabilitation, and after 2013, he completed both escorted and unsupervised outings out of jail.

Dieter was freed from prison in February 2018 after nearly 30 years in solitary confinement and given a new name. According to reports, Dieter would also be living on unemployment benefits and doing voluntary work.

According to the show, his present whereabouts are unclear, but Werl was his last known whereabouts.
