Gino Mäder, a Swiss track and road cyclist, previously participated for Team Bahrain Victorious of the UCI WorldTeam. In 2023, an accident claimed the life of Mäder during the Tour de Suisse.
They crashed violently on Thursday as they were descending the Albula Pass in the Swiss Alps. Magnus Sheffield, an American, was riding a bicycle. According to the Bahrain-Victorious team, Gino Mader passed away a day after colliding with a barrier and tumbling into a gorge at the Tour de Suisse.
At a rough downhill near the La Punt finish line of the fifth stage, the 26-year-old Mäder lost control.
The Team Bahrain Victorious rider was retrieved from the gully where he had fallen, and was then flown by helicopter to a hospital in Chur.
