From the Yatta seat in Machakos County, Gedion Munyao Mutiso was the first elected Member of Parliament.
In the midst of receiving cancer treatment, Mutiso passed away on Wednesday, according to his family, in a hospital in Nairobi. He was 91. Due to the brutal treatment of Africans by the British administration, the veteran politician had served in the military as a Corporal, which he resigned from on compassionate reasons.
Political involvement dates back to 1955 for Mutiso, who was born on March 31, 1932. He represented Kenya in the Africa Trade Union Confederation in 1969 and steadfastly opposed taking an oath.
Mutiso, who has held the position of MP for Yatta for the longest, lived a tranquil life up until he fell ill in late 2022, participating in community initiatives and church activities.
