Fred la Marmotte Cause Of Death: What Happened To Quebec’s Beloved Groundhog?

A different kind of shadow has been cast on Groundhog Day by a Canadian woodchuck: Fred la Marmotte was discovered dead just hours before he was scheduled to foretell the arrival of spring.

According to local media, the groundhog’s attempts to awaken from hibernation by the organizer of the annual 2 February ritual in Val-d’Espoir, Quebec, were met with “no vital signs.”

There would have been six more weeks of winter if Fred had noticed his shadow, which would have caused him to hastily retreat back within his burrow.

If there had been no shade, Fred would have remained above ground, portending an early spring.

However, following about 40 minutes of entertainment that included singing and dancing, the event’s organizer Roberto Blondin informed the waiting audience that Fred had passed away.

According to reports, Fred la Marmotte most likely died during hibernation.  He added that he believed the groundhog had passed either in late autumn or early December at the age of nine, according to CBC.

Unfazed, a young person in a groundhog hat was called to the stage, given a stuffed groundhog, and asked to make a forecast. He predicted a long winter.

Punxsutawney Phil, another well-known furry weather forecaster from Pennsylvania’s south, likewise forecasted six more weeks of winter.

Many communities in the US and Canada observe Groundhog Day, but Punxsutawney Phil, who bears the name of his hometown, is the most well-known rodent prognosticator.
