Former Louisville KY Officer Joshua Jaynes Arrested On Charges Of Breonna Taylor Case
According to the United States Attorney General, Merrick Garland, Joshua is charged with civil rights violations, criminal planning, unconstitutional use of force, and obstruction.
Jaynes was the case’s lead investigator and signed the search warrant that resulted in Taylor’s death on March 13, 2020.
According to Garland, the federal charges allege that the officers falsified information on the search warrant used to enter Taylor’s home, infringing on her fourth amendment rights and causing her death. He claimed that after Taylor’s death, the officers took steps to cover up their illegal behavior.
Moreover, as per the DOJ, Jaynes and Goodlett met in a garage in May 2020 and agreed to tell investigators a false story. Meany also lied to the FBI during its investigation. Jaynes, a former detective, was fired in January 2021, and the Louisville Police Merit Board upheld his termination in June after an appeal.
An internal investigation was conducted by Louisville police which found that Jaynes violated department procedures for preparing a search warrant and being truthful. In a May interview with Louisville police investigators, he admitted that he had not personally verified a drug trafficking suspect.
Jamarcus Glover was receiving mail at Taylor’s apartment, despite having stated in an earlier affidavit that he had. Jaynes said that he instead relied on information from a fellow officer.
