Fletcher Cox’s biography
Fletcher Cox is a professional football player who represents the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL) as a defensive tackle. He is the son of Malissa Cox Bright, who is also the mother of Fletcher’s three other siblings. She gave birth to the NFL star on December 13, 1990 in Yazoo City, Mississippi.
Raised from a single parent, Cox grew up alongside his mother and siblings in a three bedroom trailer home. Since his father was not in the picture, his older brother, Shaddrick Cox, became a father figure as well as a positive male influence. Late now, Shaddrick was behind the brains behind the success of Fletcher’s career. He would always encourage him to work hard to get a good job and leave Yazoo City. Sadly, the soccer player lost his brother in January 2015 at the age of 34 after suffering a fatal heart attack.
Aside from his big brother the defensive tackle, he also suffered two other major casualties in his life. One is the death of his best friend (Melvin Baker) who died in a car accident and the other is that of his grandmother, Jimmie Lee Cox.
After completing his high school education, Cox began receiving scholarship offers from various Alabama Crimson Tide-Football University of Alabama, Ole Miss Rebels-Football University of Mississippi, Auburn Tigers-Football Auburn University and Tigers-Football Louisiana State University.
He eventually settled on the University of Mississippi, where he played three seasons. As his junior, Fletcher had a total of 103 tackles (including 2 interceptions, 11 quarterback sacks) and 104 total tackles (including a fumble recovery, 10 quarterback sacks and an interception) as a senior. His commendable performance on the field in Mississippi led to his selection as part of the Mississippi-Alabama High School All-Star Game.
NFL career
Over the years, Cox has matured into the game of football. At first, his mother never wanted him to play football. She loved basketball and hoped his son would one day carve out a niche in the sport, but Cox’s love of football eventually overshadowed her desires.
Football only became a part of Fletcher’s life at the age of 13. Under the tutelage of great head coaches like Tony Woolfolk, defensive tackle has seen its game improve over the years. Today, he is one of Mississippi’s greatest football players and the NFL’s most respected defenseman.
Fletcher Cox began his professional career in 2012 when he was drafted 12th overall in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. That same year, on June 18 to be precise, he signed a four-year contract with the team. During his rookie year, he completed 15 games and finished the season with 1 forced fumble, 5.5 sacks, 39 tackles and passes defended.
The no. The 91 jersey man renewed his contract with the Eagles on June 13, 2016 and is expected to spend the next six years with the team. The deal is reportedly worth $103 million with a guaranteed signing bonus of $26,000,000 and $63 million.
After an impressive performance in 2016, Fletcher Cox was named the 38th best player on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2017 and 69th on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2018. He was also selected to the Pro Bowl three times.
Currently, his career awards and highlights include – All-SEC First-Team (2011), Super Bowl Champion (LII), 3× Pro Bowl (2015–2017), PFWA All-Rookie Team (2012), 3× All-Pro Second-Team (2014, 2015, 2017) and First-Team All-American (2011), while his NFL stats as of Week 4, 2018 are detailed as follows: Total Tackles: 295, Passing Deflections: 11, Forced Fumbles: 7, sacks: 37.0 and interceptions: 0.
Salary – What is its value?
As of 2018, the 6ft 4in Super Bowl champion earned a base salary of $11,500,000 and a median salary of $17,100,000. The Eagles defensive tackle earned a whopping $10.2 million in his first four seasons with the team, after which, as previously mentioned, he signed a six-year, $102,600,000 contract with the Eagles.
He ended 2017 with an estimated net worth of $33.4 million. He practically built this character from his earnings and salaries, however a small portion of the character is said to have come from his businesses and endorsements.
Wife or girlfriend, is he married or dating?
As long as the marriage is at stake, Cox has yet to tie the knot. He may be single as there are records of him having married a woman in the past or now he is also not engaged to anyone.
However, his love life was plagued by a ridiculous relationship scandal. In December 2017, he was charged with allegedly seducing and establishing a relationship with a married woman via text message. Joshua Jefferds claimed in his court papers that the soccer player seduced and slept with his wife, Catherine Cuesta Jefferds.
However, Cox insisted that his relationship with the woman was thriving due to a mutual attraction between them and Catherine readily complied, adding that he didn’t even know she was married. The case was eventually settled in August 2018, although the terms of the settlement were not disclosed by the court.
