He shakes up the floor plans and builds new layouts that actually function to fix those houses. Once the team has the updated layout, he restores the flow to the home, giving it a modern touch.
In the first episode, the pair took on an early 1900s family house filled with tight and dysfunctional spaces. Yet the place was full of special historic features.
They tore down the walls, created an open kitchen, and built a large mudroom and spa-like bathrooms that exuded modern farmhouse design to restore order in the house.
Often, homeowners don’t realize they have enough space in their property to turn it around. That’s when the Butlers make their entry, dedicated to making the quality of life better for the occupants.
Denese Butler Is An Interior Designer
Denese Butler on HGTV is a design guru who deals with the aesthetic choice post-renovation. In addition, she sometimes trickles into the construction world with her hubby.
Besides being an interior designer, she is a loving daughter, wife, and mother of three. She balances her business and construction aspect with her young children and husband.
“I’m a superwoman, okay?” she said while laughing, referring to the fact that she has three kids. She and her man regularly deal with things like Latin tests and parent-teacher conferences.
And balancing a personal and professional life in such a graceful way is her version of superwoman.
She has a fashion background, and interior designing wasn’t what she thought she would pursue in the future. “I just fell into it,” the HGTV star gushed.
After working for a few years in the fashion industry, she joined a luxury textile design company and gained extensive knowledge of fabric construction and its proper use.

And while she was determined to chart her career in the same industry, the interior design caught her attention.
Mike Butler Is The Father Of Three
Mike and Denise Butler kids are Ellis, Felix, and Luca. The couple moved to Boston from New Jersey in 2019 to live closer to family.
Mike is a construction guru and the host of Fix My Frankenhouse. He oversees designing layouts and makes construction decisions.
Butler also grew up in the building and construction world, like his beloved wife. His dad, grandfather, and uncles are all builders and carpenters actively working in the industry.
His father, John, who regularly appears in the show, is a renowned builder and carpenter. Mike mentioned his family’s influence made him develop a passion for construction at a young age.
Growing up alongside three sisters, the only time he felt connected to his dad was while helping him at different construction sites.
This ultimately made him choose between earning a living as a builder. Then in high school, he studied technical drafting and designed homes throughout high school and college.
After college, he opted to take several design-build projects, which assisted him in gaining some much-needed experience. He was also briefly involved in an expansion job at Gillette Stadium.
