Examples of climbing plants in ghana

Beans, Cucumber, Grapevine, Gourd, Jasmine, and Money Plant, are a few common examples of climbers.

Yam is the name given to many plants with tubers belonging to the family of Dioscoreaceae. Yams, or Dioscorea, are herbaceous plants. Creeping plants or “creepers” are generally considered to be small, viny plants that grow close to the ground. They are also referred to as procumbent plants.

Watermelons, like other types of cucurbits, have a sprawling growth habit and stretch out across the ground. The watermelon vine’s sprawling growth habit make it a creeper, but you can provide support for watermelons and grow them vertically to save space.

Lavender (Lavandula spp.) makes a fragrant ground cover for dry, hot areas. Place the plants 12 to 18 inches apart in well-draining, sandy soil. Lavender tends to break apart after a few years, so replace plants as they die off.

Lavender is a perennial herb that continues to grow each year. Lavender is a woody perennial, so it does continue to grow from year to year, but the stems remain upright through the winter in preparation for new spring growth. With proper care and pruning, lavender will survive in the garden for years to come.

Lavenders can spread by foliage growth (as with all plants) and seed dispersal in the late summer. Lavender plants do not spread by self propagation, or any other mechanism (however they are reasonable easy to propagate with some planning).

Light: Lavender needs full sun and well-drained soil to grow best. In hot summer climates, afternoon shade may help them thrive. Soil: Lavender grows best in low to moderately-fertile soils, so don’t amend the soil with organic matter before planting. Lavender performs best in neutral to slightly alkaline soils.
