Jay Barker, a former Alabama quarterback, was arrested in Nashville early Saturday morning over domestic violence.
He is being held on a $10,000 bond in Davidson County for one count of infuriated assault with a deadly weapon. His full name is Harry Jerome Barker, according to his arrest booking report.
According to Davidson County Sheriff’s Office records, Barker was placed in 12-hour custody for domestic violence.
After submitting a bond, he was released Saturday night from the hold.
Both the investigators and the player has been silenced about the case and nothing in detail is known.
The Associated Press’ request for information about the case was not immediately returned by investigators. Along with Bake, who did not return an AP call, it was unclear whether he had an attorney who could comment.
The former player is now the host of a sports radio talk show in Birmingham, Alabama.
During his early years, Barker led Alabama to a 35-2-1 record. He even led Alabama to the national championship in 1992, including a Sugar Bowl victory over No. 1 ranked Miami on January 1, 1993.
With a 35-2-1 record as a starter, he was the school’s all-time winningest quarterback. He was honored with the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award as a senior in 1994.
That year, he came as the fifth in Heisman Trophy voting.
According to documents filed with Metro Nashville General Sessions Court, the individuals in the vehicle were leaving a party around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
They pulled into the driveway of a nearby home when Barker allegedly reversed his vehicle “at a high rate of speed attempting to hit them but missing.”
The occupants of the vehicle called police after Barker drove away from the house, according to the affidavit.
