Evan Turner started playing basketball while studying at Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School. He played for St. Joseph High School and was named to the first team Associated Press Class AA all-state team in 2006-2007.
He joined Ohio State Buckeyes men’s basketball team. Turner was hailed as the Big Ten Tournament MVP, and Big Ten Player of the Year in 2010. He decided to forgo his final season of college eligibility and entered the NBA Draft, instead.
