Edmond J. Muniz: Endymion founder and former Kenner mayor dies at 83

Edmond J. Muniz eventually left politics and radio, but he remained involved in Carnival. Endymion, the small krewe he started in the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans in 1966 and oversaw as it grew for more than 50 years, is perhaps his greatest enduring contribution to the public.

After years of worsening health and dementia, Muniz passed away on Saturday at the age of 83. He had worked his way up in the radio industry to the point where he owned numerous stations, which he later sold. During his 28 years in Jefferson Parish politics, he served as mayor of Kenner and on both the Jefferson Parish Council and the Kenner City Council.
