Italian fashion designer Domenico Dolce is the co-founder of Dolce & Gabbana with an estimated net worth of $1.53 billion as of May 2017 according to Forbes.
He grew up working for his father who was a tailor. Since then, he decided that he wanted to focus his career in fashion. He later relocated to Milan to pursue a full-time career in the fashion industry. He and his soon-to-be partner, Stefano Gabbana, met when they were both working for the same atelier in Milan while also doing freelance designing.
Together, Domenico and Stefano created their first collection in 1982. However, it was not until 1984 that they officially “arrived” as a design team when they were invited to participate in Fashion Week in Milan. Since then, they both became a name in the fashion industry. After a year, they presented their first women collection. Five years later, they opened their first boutique in Asia. Soon they became known as the Dolce & Gabbana design team and they have designed costumes for the concert tours of Madonna, Whitney Houston and Missy Elliot to name a few. Also, they have created clothing for film purposes and have been the chosen fashion line of the Hollywood elite.
The fashion house is famous for its animal prints and pink fur which have been a mainstay on both the catwalk and the party scene. Their brand continues to grow and they launched a couture line in 2012.
However, they had been in and out of the court in 2013. They have been charged by the Italian government for allegedly evading millions in corporate taxes by moving their assets to Luxembourg. They denied it and made an appeal. In October 2014, Dolce & Gabbana were both cleared of wrongdoing by the appellate court.
