Rocky is ultimately victorious over the machine of a man, beginning Drago’s professional record at an unsightly 0-1, and sending him home in disgrace to try and resurrect his career. Ivan Drago’s professional record stands at 31-1-0.

In the climax of Rocky IV, an uppercut by Rocky Balboa left Ivan Drago on the canvas after 15 rounds of fighting. Unable to respond to the referee’s count, Drago was handed a loss by knockout in front a crowd that heavily favored him.

After going toe-to-toe for much of the final round, Creed is knocked down by a left from Balboa, with Balboa falling down in exhaustion as well. Rocky gets up by the count of 9, but Creed is unable to pull himself up and is counted out, losing the match and the championship by knockout, his first professional loss.

The first film ends with Rocky losing, by judges’ decision, his fight against the heavyweight champ Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers)—but winning a more personal victory by “going the distance,” making it through an entire fifteen rounds in the ring as no previous challenger had.

As audiences will never forget, the original Rocky ends with a battered and bruised Balboa going to a draw with Apollo Creed, then yelling for Adrian after the fight. She eventually makes her way to the ring and declares her love for Rocky, he reciprocates, and they embrace. It’s iconic.

After returning home, Rocky and Adrian discover they are broke after Paulie was fooled into signing a “power of attorney” over to Rocky’s accountant, who squandered all of his money on real estate deals gone sour and failed to pay Rocky’s taxes over the previous six years.

The final scene in Rocky II, in which Rocky yells “Yo Adrian, I did it!”, has been named by film enthusiasts as one of the most iconic quotes in sports film history.
