About Peter Seidler

Peter Seidler was an American businessman and the former chairman of the San Diego Padres.

In 2012, Seidler, alongside his uncle Peter and Ron Fowler, co-founded the O’Malley Group.

The consortium made headlines by acquiring the San Diego Padres from John Moores, setting the stage for Seidler’s influential role in the team’s trajectory.

The turning point came on November 18, 2020, when MLB approved the transfer of the chairman role from Fowler to Seidler, marking a pivotal moment in the Padres’ ownership landscape. Under Seidler’s leadership, the team’s payroll witnessed a remarkable surge.

In the 2022 season, Seidler increased the Padres’ payroll to an impressive $214 million, ranking sixth-highest in MLB.

This financial boost translated into success on the field, as the Padres advanced to the 2022 National League Championship Series.

The momentum continued into the 2023 MLB season, with the Padres boasting the third-highest payroll at a staggering $237 million.

Beyond the baseball diamond, Seidler made a significant impact in the world of finance. In 1992, he founded Seidler Equity Partners, a private equity firm based in Marina del Rey, California.

Serving as the managing partner, Seidler played a pivotal role in the firm’s growth, overseeing its assets under management rise from an estimated $1.8 billion in 2020 to an impressive $3.5 billion in 2023.

Seidler’s passed away in San Diego on November 14, 2023, at the age of 63.
