José Carreras is a Spanish operatic tenor who is most known for his roles in Donizetti, Verdi, and Puccini’s operas.
Jose Carreras was drawn to music as a child, and at the age of ten, he performed at the Liceo, Catalonia’s most outstanding opera venue. He made his tenor debut on the same stage as Norma in 1970.
His farewell concert took place on September 14, 2021, and was broadcast on 2021.
Carreras said his goodbyes to the State Opera in a gala with Elna Garana and Lorenzo Bavaj.
Jose Carreras Illness – Does He Have A Cancer?
Jose Carreras was diagnosed with leukemia, a blood cancer in the late 1980s, and while he recovered completely, the illness altered his voice and performance.
“After that, I sang less opera,” he recalls. “Before the sickness, I had one career, and subsequently, I had to alter because of it.”
“When you’re younger, and your voice is full, you can do certain things, but as you become older, you can’t.”
“Yes, I have some regrets, but it is all part of the game. You must take notes on what occurs. Perhaps my career might have turned out differently, but I’m not sure.”
“I’m going to have to stop sooner or later, and I’m not sure when, so I’m savoring what I can do every night as I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be singing.”
“Perhaps a few more years, perhaps a few months. I appreciate what I do, and it makes me feel fulfilled as an artist and a man. Looking back, I can see that my work life has been both demanding and gratifying. “I was fortunate.”
“However, after I quit singing, I know exactly what I’m going to do: work full-time with my leukemia charity and attempt to offer individuals suffering from the disease some hope.”
Jose Carreras Health Condition 2021
Jose Carreras was already at the pinnacle of his profession by the age of 30. However, he has had leukemia since 1987. The tenor took a break from the spotlight for a spell to receive therapy.
To combat the disease, he later founded the José Carreras International Leukemia Foundation. This effort is supported by the proceeds from many of his current performances.
