Learn more about his Trudeau’s bio, career, family, and other facts below.

Justin Trudeau’s Early Life

Justin Trudeau was born on the night of Christmas in 1971 at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. Interestingly, he is the second child in the history of Canada to be born to a ruling prime minister. The first was Margaret Mary Theodora Macdonald, the daughter of John A. Macdonald. Justin’s younger brothers Alexandre and Michel were the third and fourth children respectively. Justin possesses Canadian nationality as well as Scottish and French-Canadian descent.

While he was growing, Justin was enrolled into Rockcliffe Park Public School in the French immersion program in 1976. Soon after his graduation, he went on to spend the next year at a French private school named Lycée Claudel d’Ottawa. In 1984, his family moved to Montreal where he also attended Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, his father’s alma mater. Later on, Justin acquired a degree in Literature from McGill University and another degree in Education from the University of British Columbia.

After graduation, Justin stayed in Vancouver where he started working as a substitute in local schools. He also worked as a Maths and French teacher at West Point Grey Academy. He studied engineering from 2002 to 2004 at The Polytechnique Montréal. Not only that, but he also began a master’s program in environmental geography at McGill but didn’t complete it. He suspended it for public office among other reasons.

Political Career

Justin Trudeau started his political career supporting the Liberal Party leader John Turner in the 1988 federal election. After the death of his father, he became more involved with the Liberal Party in the 2000s. Interestingly, he co-hosted a tribute to the outgoing prime minister Jean Chrétien at the party’s 2003 leadership convention. In 2006, he threw in his support for Gerard Kennedy shortly before the 2006 convention. However, when Kennedy dropped out of the race, Justin joined him to support the eventual winner, Stéphane Maurice Dion.

After Stéphane Dion resigned as the leader of the Liberal Party in 2008, there was speculation that Justin Trudeau would take up the position. However, after much contemplation, he decided that he wouldn’t run for the position as he had a young family. The position would go to Michael Ignatieff. Despite this, support still flooded in after Michael Ignatieff resigned as leader in 2011 and Justin later announced in 2012 that he would reconsider his decision to not seek the leadership.

On the 2nd of October, 2012, Justin held a rally in Montreal to launch his bid for Liberal Party leader. After campaigns and matches against other candidates, he emerged victorious on the 14th of April, 2013 with 80.1% of 30,800 votes. His political career got a positive turn around in 2015 when he emerged as the Prime Minister of Canada. Amazingly, he is the second-youngest Canadian after Joe Clark to serve in that position.
