Dirty Honey Band Members: Concerts and Tour Dates 2023

Dirty Honey band members are Marc Labelle, John Notto, Justin Smolian, and Jaydon Bean. The band has been active since 2017.

The beginnings of Dirty Honey started with John Notto, the lead guitarist, who moved to Los Angeles to try and duplicate the success of hard rock legends Guns N’ Roses. He met vocalist Marc LaBelle while he was playing several gigs with his then-group Ground Zero.

Notto then joined Ground Zero but eventually, the two decided to start their own band after recruiting bassist Justin Smolian. The group then officially formed after they added their first drummer Corey Coverstone.

Finally naming themselves Dirty Honey after first going by The Shags, the group’s official debut happened in 2017 after their second show on a Sunset Boulevard sidewalk in front of 100 people.

They started performing in various places, eventually gaining acclaim as an independent band and touring with various bands as an opening act. Success came in 2019 after they released their self-titled EP in March of that year, with their single, “When I’m Gone” topping the Mainstream Rock Charts on Billboard.

Since then, the band has quickly garnered a lot of attention as the next wave of mainstream rock alongside Greta Van Fleet.

Marc LaBelle

Dirty Honey band members consist of Marc LaBelle who is the lead singer and frontman of the band. He started Dirty Honey with John Notto.

As the frontman of the band, LaBelle has the most recognizable visual look among the four. Many fans know and adore him for his old-school rocker look consisting of a cowboy hat, skinny jeans, dusted jacket, shades, and his trust tiny scarf wrapped around his neck like a cravat.

Like many rock and roll hopefuls, LaBelle’s love of the genre and music, in general, started at a young age. In an interview with CBS News, the singer stated that his earliest memories go back to when he was four years old, and he had an intense love for classic rock bands like Aerosmith and the Rolling Stones.

He decided upon a career in rock and roll when he was seven or eight years old and he watched Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, the singer, and guitarist of Aerosmith respectively, walk out of a radio station and into a limo. In the interview, he stated that he thought it seemed like a fun career.

LaBelle has stated that coming from a family that loved rock and roll also certainly helped shape him into the man he is. Both his father and stepfather not only loved that genre of music but could sing too, a talent he inherited from both of them.

Alongside his father and stepfather, who introduced him to older music, LaBelle has his stepbrother to thank for his musical education. His stepbrother introduced him to more current music like the Black Crowes and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

With so many musical inspirations in his early life, the singer started playing music from an early age too. He performed in a school talent show with a band when he was still in middle school.

He eventually moved to Los Angeles in 2012 but didn’t see success for a long time. The singer was also homeless for a time, but eventually, he met Notto, Smolian, and Coverstone and the rest is history.

John Notto

John Notto is the lead guitarist of the Dirty Honey band. Alongside the singer, LaBelle, Notto is the person who started the band.

Like LaBelle, Notto also has a visually recognizable look borrowed from the same classic rock that inspired the band’s music. He wears a cowboy hat too but often takes it off, or has it fly off when he plays, letting his long brunette hair shine.

Though LaBelle is the frontman, many see Notto as the leader of the band, and he is the most dedicated and ambitious member. It was his idea that got the engines running on what would eventually become Dirty Honey.

Born in Massachusetts but raised in Maine, Notto too had a passion for rock and roll from a young age. In an interview with VWMusic, the guitarist remembers how he and his neighborhood friends would have little concerts where they’d play air guitars and dance for their parents.

Eventually, he started playing an actual guitar when a friend’s father taught him how to play a few chords. He took the instrument quickly and soon found that he had quite the talent for it.

He stated that the first song he learned to play was Led Zepplin’s Stairway to Heaven. His passion for music only grew as he got older which led him to move to Los Angeles to chase that rockstar dream.

As the story goes, he met the singer, they played in a band and eventually formed Dirty Honey. However, what separated Notto from most other LA rockers and even the members of his band was the fact that he knew from the beginning that he would make it.

That tenacity has kept the band going and now over half a decade into their career, Dirty Honey is still going strong and have amassed a large fan base and an extensive touring resume.

Justin Smolian

Justin Smolian is the bassist of the band Dirty Honey. He joined the band after Notto and LaBelle asked him to.

Like his fellow bandmates, Smolian also sports long hair and a classic rock aesthetic but is less flashy than the other members. He is also instantly recognizable because of his long brown, curly hair.

Out of all the members in the band, he is the only one who is originally from Los Angeles, California. Smolian was born and raised in Van Nuys, a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region in Los Angeles.

As with the previous members of the band, Smolian denotes rock and roll as an integral part of his life growing up. He stated that he used to listen to the classic rock of years gone by a lot while driving with his father and that the rock of today does not have the same kind of vibe.

Smolian started playing bass guitar was he was 12 years old though he already owned one since 10. In an interview with Loud Hailer, he stated that the reason why is because a friend of his father, who played for an old band called Sha Na Na, gave him too advanced lessons when he was young.

However, it was only after his friends started a band when he was 12 that he seriously started to play. His father encouraged him to play bass because he said that playing the bass would ensure that he would always have a job.

The bassist started playing gigs at 18 and eventually through playing multiple gigs would end up meeting the rest of Dirty Honey, and the rest is history.

Jaydon Bean

Jaydon Bean is the new drummer of the Dirty Honey Band. He started his tenure with the band earlier this year.

Prior to joining the band, Bean was the accompanying drummer of the alternative punk outfit Missio. He joined the band soon after the previous drummer Corey Coverstone left in early 2023.

The band did the change very quietly, not even announcing it on their social media accounts. As such, not many fans know that Bean has replaced the former drummer as the new one.

However, Bean has been showing up in their recent concerts and has already started building a rapport with the bassist Smolien, and have become a tight rhythm section. Though many are bemoaning the departure of Coverstone, thankfully they don’t seem to be blaming Bean, and he has started smoothly transitioning into his role as the band’s drummer.

Aside from his work with Dirty Honey and his ties to his previous band Mussio, Jaydon also has his own self-titled YouTube channel where he plays drum covers. It is very small as he only has 118 subscribers on it at the writing of this video.
