Could you VS would you?

But I would suppose that “would” is more polite, because it expresses the idea of probability, and of willingness, and of the desire that something be done, whereas “could” is more in the realm of ability (yes I can). And according to the American Heritage Dictionary, “would” is used to make a polite request.

Would and could in the same sentence?

No, could and would cannot be used in the same sentence. Could – is used to talk about something that can happen or it is used to say that an action or event is possible. Would – is used to talk about a possible or imagined situation and is often used when that possible situation is not going to happen.

When to use would have and could have?

To form these past modals, use could, would, or should followed by have, followed by a past participle verb. Use have for all pronouns; never use has or had to form a past modal. Here are some examples: She could have gone to any college she wanted to.

Would have and would have been?

What is the difference between “would have” and “would have been“? Answer: “Would have” is used together with a main verb. When you see “would have” in a sentence it means that the action didn’t actually happen, because something else didn’t happen first.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. We could have left the party earlier. The girl was crying because she couldn’t find her parents. You could have stopped by the grocery store.

Would could/should grammar?

Could, would, and should are all used to talk about possible events or situations, but each one tells us something different. Could is used to say that an action or event is possible. Would is used to talk about a possible or imagined situation, and is often used when that possible situation is not going to happen.

Can and could grammar?

Be able to is possible in all tenses – but “can” is possible only in the present and “could” is possible only in the past for ability. In addition, “can” and “could” have no infinitive form. So we use be able to when we want to use other tenses or the infinitive.

Will and would sentences examples?

A few more examples of the modal verb would: Would you like a piece of apple pie? (question) I’d (I would) like to have some milk.

Firstly, the word would is the past tense form of the word will.

  • Jack said he would finish the work the next day.
  • Ann said she would write us soon.
  • He hoped she would come.

What is the future tense of would?

“Would” is a modal verb used to form the conditional mood mainly in conditional sentences. E.g., I would do it if I could. In indirect (reported) speech, the future becomes a conditional. We use ‘would’ in future tense when we want to present a possibility of activity.

Which is correct I will or I would?

And English learners often get these two confused because they’re used in very similar situations. But they’re not the same. The main difference between will and would is that will is used for real possibilities while would is used for imagined situations in the future. Of course, this a simple explanation.

Where do we use could?

“Could” is a modal verb used to express possibility or past ability as well as to make suggestions and requests. “Could” is also commonly used in conditional sentences as the conditional form of “can.” Examples: Extreme rain could cause the river to flood the city.

Is would present tense?

Senior Member. Well, the present tense of “would” is “will”.

Would and will use?

Will and would are verbs, and each can be used many different ways. Will can be a present tense verb that means to cause something to happen through force of desire. Would is a past tense form of will. It is also a conditional verb that indicates an action that would happen under certain conditions.

What is the present of would?

Technically, would is the past tense of will, but it is an auxiliary verb that has many uses, some of which even express the present tense.

Would be or will be meaning?

Will describes an action that is expected to take place in the future. It expresses certainty. Would describes something that was in the future at the time of the original action, but is no longer in the future now.

Can we use would for future?

We have this in the past tense, simple past tense and then, in that past tense thought, we have some idea about the future and we use Would to express that idea about the future. Let’s look at some examples of this though. Here, I knew you would help me. So we can use Would to talk about future but in the past.

Is it would be or will be?

“Will be” is used to speak of a future action that is viewed as a certainty. For example, “My doctor will be happy with my test results.” “Would be,” on the other hand, speaks of a future outcome that is dependent upon certain conditions being met, whether or not those conditions are stated or simply understood.
