There are two primary reasons behind Mangeshkar’s choice not to marry anyone in her life.
The first is that Lata has always looked after her siblings, Meena, Asha, Usha, and Hridayanath, from a young age.
Lata never considered taking time away from her devotion to her siblings, whether it was to care for their schooling or assist them in achieving some level of stability in their separate occupations.
Years passed, decades went by, and just as Lata was about to embrace marriage in her life, fate tugged all the wrong threads to derail her plans.
The second reason is Lata was in love with Raj Singh. Both Lata and Raj Singh were preparing to marry, but when the latter informed his parents about it, Maharawal Lakshman Singhji’s father opposed the notion.
The reason for this was that Lata was not from a royal family. As a result, Maharawal Lakshman could not allow his son, Raj Singh, to marry a commoner.
Maharawal’s stern decision had broken Raj Singh and Lata’s castle of dreams in a short second.
That’s when Raj Singh chose to accept his father’s choice out of love and respect for him, but the adoring son had promised never to marry again and had notified his parents about it.
However, Mangeshkar was deeply in love with Raj Singh, and as a consequence, the renowned singer promised the same, and the two remained lifelong friends.
