Dick Fosbury parents: Who are Dick Fosbury’s parents?

On March 6, 1947, his parents gave birth to him in Portland, Oregon, in the United States.

He entered at Oregon State University in Corvallis in 1965 after completing his high school education in Medford.

Although he was permitted to utilize the “flip” in freshman competitions, the school’s coach, Berny Wagner, persuaded Fosbury to continue using the outdated technique during his freshman year because he thought he would eventually have better results utilizing the western roll.

Yet in Fosbury’s sophomore year, he broke the school record in his first meet of the season by clearing 6 feet 10 inches (2.08 m), putting an end to the discussion regarding technique.

The jumper from Oregon with the unique approach caught the attention of the national sports media.

He appeared on the cover of the February 1968 edition of Track and Field News.
