Diana Krall is a legend in jazz circles. The beautiful singer and pianist knows how to engage audiences in the jazz genre, which is known for instilling calm and helping people meditate. Unlike most jazz artists around the world, Krall has managed to put out quite a number of albums. She has released a total of over ten albums over the course of her career and boasts an enviable discography that has easily placed her among the best-selling jazz artists of her time. She is indeed a woman worth knowing and below we will look at some important facts about the life and career of the jazz spectacular.

Diana Krall – Bio

Diana Krall came on November 16, 1964. She was born in Canada at a place called Nanaimo in British Columbia. Although she is Canadian by birth, she has made music that has gone around the world, but all that didn’t happen all at once. She began learning and playing the piano at the age of four. She even sat exams at the Royal Conservatory of Music. She started jazz in high school when she joined a student jazz group. By the age of 15, Diana was already playing professionally in local restaurants.

It’s not surprising that a musician as good as she earned a scholarship to Boston’s Berklee College of Music at an early age. There she graduated in 1983 and moved to Los Angeles to play jazz. Diana Krall is obviously in a bind when it comes to dedicating her time to what she loves to do. Not only did she make sure to complete her schooling, but it also took her ten years to gain experience before eventually returning to Canada to release her first album. She called the album Stepping Outand it saw her step out with JeffHamilton and John Clayton. The album turned out to be aptly named, as it drew Krall’s attention to producer Tommy LiPuma. It was LiPuma who helped her produce her second album, titled Just Trust Your Heart .

However, it was her third album, All for Her: A Dedication to the Nat King Cole Trio , that stayed on the Billboard Jazz Chart for 70 weeks and got her a Grammy nomination. This was obviously a major peak in her career and Diana Krall could have rested on her oars, but she stuck to the craft and continued to set great records. The year 2001 was the year she decided to embark on a world tour. Her concert at the Olympia in Paris, Diana Krall – Life in Paris, led to her releasing her first live recording. The album saw their cover Just the Way You Are by Billy Joel and Joni Mitchell A Case of You .

After marrying her British musician husband, she began working with him as a lyricist. At the same time, she kept pushing herself to compose her own songs, and all of this hard work resulted in the release of an album in April 2004 entitled The Girl in the Other Room. The album was a huge hit outside of their home country of Canada. It was particularly successful in the UK, where it reached the top 5, and Australia also showed some love as the album entered the top 40 of the albums chart. Diana Krall also takes the cake for the production of Barbra Streisand’s album Love is the Answer She has been inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame in her spectacular career.

Family Facts: Her Children and Husband

Diana Krall has always been a lover of music and so on December 6, 2003 she married a man who shares the same interest. The beautiful and talented musician has married a British musician as we mentioned earlier. Her husband’s name is Elvis Costello and the two bonded in a holy marriage at Elton John’s estate. As if their story and life weren’t idyllic enough, three years later, on December 6th, 2006 to be exact, they were blessed with their twin sons – Dexter Henry Lorcan and Frank Harlan James. Undoubtedly, every time December 6 comes, the family has a grand time, as for them it would be a celebration of love.

Diana Krall had a fairly humble beginning in Canada. The Krall family is a big part of who it has grown to be. Her mother’s name is Adella A. (née Wende) and she was an elementary school teacher. Her father’s name is Stephen James “Jim” Krall, a man who supported his family by earning money as an accountant. She only has one sibling named Michelle Krall.

Her singing and piano skills probably came from her parents – her father often played the piano at home and her mother was known to sing in the community choir. Diana Krall lost her mother to multiple myeloma in 2002.
