New Zealand cricketer Derek Alexander Stirling participated in six One Day Internationals and six Test matches between 1984 and 1986.
Initially playing for Central Districts in the 1981–1982 season as a right-arm fast–medium bowler, Stirling made his debut for New Zealand in a One Day International against Sri Lanka on March 31, 1984. Against Pakistan on November 16, 1984, he made his Test debut.
A brief illness claimed Stirling’s life at the age of 62. He had three children, Daniel, Michael, and Annie, with his American wife Debbie.
When Debbie’s mother opened a new temporary staffing business in 1998, Stirling relocated the family to Oregon, where they worked for four years until purchasing the business.
