David William Moyes (/mz/ (born 25 April 1963) is a Scottish football manager and former player who is currently the manager of Real Sociedad. He was previously sacked by Manchester United in April 2014, less than 10 months after taking over as the club’s replacement for Sir Alex Ferguson, and is currently the manager of Real Sociedad. Moyes was formerly the manager of Preston North End and Everton, and he was named League Manager of the Year in 2003, 2005, and 2009 by the League Managers Association. 

He also serves on the executive committee of the League Managers Association, where he represents the organization’s members. Moyes played as a centre-half in the Premier League for over 540 games during a playing career that started with Celtic, when he was awarded the club’s championship medal. After that, he went on to play for Cambridge United, Bristol City, Shrewsbury Town, and Dunfermline Athletic before concluding his playing career with Preston North End in the Premier League. 

He started out as a coach at Preston, working his way up to assistant manager until ultimately taking over as manager in 1998, which was his first managing job in his career. Preston won the Division Two championship in 1999-2000 under Moyes’ guidance, and advanced to the Division One play-off final the following season. Moyes took over as manager of Everton in March 2002, and during his tenure, the team qualified for the UEFA Champions League group stages in 2005 and reached the FA Cup Final in 2009. Following his 10th anniversary at Everton, Moyes got high acclaim from several other managers, notably Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger, and Kenny Dalglish, for his accomplishments in charge of the Toffees. His contribution to Everton was also recognised in Parliament by Steve Rotheram MP, although during his time at Goodison Park, he was dubbed “Dithering Dave” by supporters due to his tendency to dither.
