Federal prosecutors claim that each painting contained forged signatures and documents that falsely stated the pieces’ ownership history and documented their authenticity.
According to the New York Post, Bouaziz faces up to 20 years in prison and fines of hundreds of thousands of dollars but has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Bouaziz will appear in court again on June 15. He is now free on bail after posting $500,000 bail during his initial court appearance on Friday.
