Dan Greenburg Obituary

Allenton, Michigan bid farewell to a beloved member of its community as Daniel Lyle Greenberg, born on October 16, 1944, in Detroit, passed away on August 21, 2020. His life was one marked by love, family, faith, and a deep appreciation for nature.

Dan, the eldest of four children to Lyle and Geraldine (Cattey) Greenberg, spent his formative years in Harrison Township and graduated from St. Louis High School in 1962. In 1965, he embarked on a 55-year journey of companionship with Mary Alice Norton, a union that saw them primarily residing in Harrison and Macomb Townships before embracing the tranquility of country living in Allenton in 2009.

Dan’s professional journey led him to a fulfilling career at Reska Spline Products, where he dedicated his efforts until his well-deserved retirement in 2012. Beyond his professional life, Dan was an unwavering Detroit sports enthusiast, investing his weekends in watching or listening to games while tending to his yard or tinkering with cars.

Nature held a special place in Dan’s heart, and he found solace in fishing, boating, and swimming. The joy of these activities was amplified when shared with his children and grandchildren, whether on Lake St. Clair, at the family cottage on Lake May, or during fly-in fishing escapades in Canada.

Dan’s legacy extends beyond his recreational pursuits. His family fondly remembers his unique contributions to holiday celebrations and his steadfast Catholic faith. A man of candor, Dan imparted invaluable lessons about the outdoors and life to his children and grandchildren.

In mourning his passing, Dan is preceded by his wife, Mary, his parents, and in-laws, Michael and Gladys (St. Pierre) Norton, his brother Larry, and his brother-in-law, Dewar Bosel. He is survived by his two children, Dannette (Matt) Simon and Derrek (Virginia) Greenberg, and five grandchildren: Amanda, Emma, Joshua, Katherine, and Ryan.

Surviving Dan are also his brothers, William (Bev) Greenberg, Gary Greenberg, sister-in-law Sandi Greenberg, brothers-in-law Michael Emmett Norton Jr., John (NanSea) Norton, and sister-in-law Gladys Bosel. Numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and former colleagues will also cherish his memory.

A memorial Mass in celebration of Dan’s life will take place at Immaculate Conception Church in Ira Township on Tuesday, August 25, at 10 a.m. For those wishing to make a contribution in Daniel’s name, Heart to Heart Hospice or Immaculate Conception Church are suggested recipients in lieu of flowers. Dan’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him, remembering a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and a deep connection to nature.
