Colorado Quarterbacks In The NFL ft Darian Hagan

Colorado quarterbacks in the NFL cover Gale Weidner, Randy Essington, Kordell Stewart, Koy Detmer, Craig Ochs, Joel Klatt, and Tyler Hansen.

These are the names from the past among which some have actually played with the teams in the NFL and some are associated with franchises in certain ways.

It has been 25 years since a QB from the University of Colorado actually played in the NFL. After Koy Detmer was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1997 NFL Draft, there have been no players who actually appeared in a League game.

The fallback was not because the Buffaloes lacked good players. There were some excellent players back at that time such as Craig Ochs, Tyler Hansen, Joel Klatt, and Sefo Liufau who had great potential to take part in the League.

But they were outnumbered by other tough competitions. Ochs was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the 2005 NFL Draft but was cut short before the start of the regular season. He signed with the Bills in 2006 but never actually played a game in the League.

Similarly, Hansen was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Bengals in 2012 but never played in the actual match. Klatt did appear in the rookie mini camps of the Lions and the Saints but not in the matches in the regular season.

The footballer was picked by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1997 NFL Draft as the seventh-round pick after which he spent his entire 8 years of the professional career with the Eagles.

Though he played exceptionally well in his high school as well as college level, his NFL statistics don’t count much. He played in 108 games in a total of eight years but scored in only eight games.

Throughout the professional career, Koy threw for 1,944 with ten touchdowns and 14 interceptions and rushed only for 30 yards. Among the 354 passes attempted he succeeded in 184. His career passer rating was numbered 61.2.

The player was highly acclaimed for his role in the place-kicks which extended his career to 11 years although he appeared in the QB position for eight seasons only.

CU Buffs Quarterback History

Best Colorado football QBs are Kordell Stewart, Darian Hagan, Koy Detmer, Sal Aunese, Joel Klatt, Bob Anderson, and John Hessler.

While Stewart and Detmer were considered pro footballers in their college days and later went to participate in the competitive NFL as well, Aunese football was limited to the college level only.

In 1986, the player was named starting quarterback for the team and led the squad to maintain a 7-4 record the same year. In the 1988 regular season, the team’s record read 8-3. He died of stomach cancer in 1989.

Similarly, Klatt who was also a Buffaloes’ player currently serves as the color commentator for Fox Sports. Klatt came to CU in 2002 but did not score in a total of three games played that season.

The player appeared in 39 games throughout his college football career and threw for 7,708 yards, 46 touchdowns, and 33 interceptions which is an impressive gain. In 1128 passing attempts, he completed 690 passes with a 61.2% pass completion percentage.

Likewise, Anderson played for the CU Buffaloes in the running quarterback position from 1967 to 1969. He was named first-team All-American and led the team in both passing and rushing.

John Hessler came to play college football at CU in 1994 and remained till 1997. During his career, he threw for a total of 4,788 yards and 34 touchdowns. Most of the TDs he got were from the 1995 season where he went for 20 touchdowns.

Deion Sanders Son QB Stats

Shedeur Sanders draft profile is ranked in the 4th position per CBS Sports after the player led an impressive overtime game win on Week 3.

Until 10 September 2023, Sanders was in the third number in the prospect rank of the quarterback position.

The ratings indicated 88% in the game passing, 99% in both long and medium passing, and 63% in rush/scramble. Out of 100, the overall rating of the player was 92.1.

He is projected to finish either from first to fifth in the draft of the 2024 class. ESPN has rated the player as a four-star recruit giving him 86 overall out of hundred.

Similarly, 247sports has also kept Sanders under a four-start recruit list and has marked 91 overall out of 100. Likewise, rivals.com has named him a three-star recruit rating him 5.6 out of 10.

Coming to the end of Week 3, the QB has completed 38 passes out of 47 passing attempts for 348 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception in the team’s last match against Colorado State which they won by 43-35 score.

In a total of three games played till now, Shedeur has completed 78.7% passes which is the fourth most in the country. The most important strength of the year is considered to be his poise.

His other strengths incorporate accurate passes (one of the most accurate in college football) and unmatchable play-making skills. If he is to be drafted now, for instance, he will surely make himself in the top 10 picks.

Many analysts have projected him to finish a number one pick in the 2024 NFL Draft as he is just below three top players in the same position including #1 Caleb Williams of USC, #2 Drake Maye of North Carolina, and #3 J.J. McCarthy of Michigan.
