Coco Gauff Ranking After US Open

Coco Gauff ranking after French Open 2023 dropped from 6th to 7th in the world after losing in the quarterfinals. She earned only 430 WTA points.

Gauff was seeded 6th going into the 2023 Roland Garros and was ranked World No. 6 in the WTA rankings. She had 4,305 points before the start of the Grand Slam defending 1,300 points.

After crashing out of the quarterfinals against the would-be champion Iga Swiatek in straight sets (6-4, 6-2), Gauff was left with only 3,435 WTA points and ranked seventh in the world.

Gauff was ahead of Ons Jabeur by 764 points before the start of the major tournament and ended up trailing by 525 points after the conclusion of the French Open. As a result, Jabeur overtook Gauff to become the new World No. 6.

Coco Gauff coaching team includes Pere Riba as the primary coach and Brad Gilbert as a consultant. Riba and Gilbert have been working with Gauff since 2023.

Riba and Gilbert are both former professional tennis players who have gained a wealth of experience as players before moving into a coaching role.

Coco Gauff hitting partner is Jarmere Jenkins since April 2023. Jenkins previously worked with the greatest women’s tennis player Serena Williams.

Pere Riba

Riba was a tennis player himself who played professionally from 2004 to 2020. The 35-year-old Spanish player turned coach was the coach of Zheng Qinwen from 2021-2023. He was responsible for Zheng’s rise from being ranked 169th to 19th in the WTA rankings and is currently ranked 22nd in 2023.

Riba did not win any career titles on the ATP Tour and has a 24-26 career record. He did reach a career-high ranking of 65 in 2011. He does have 21 titles (singles and doubles) on the lower tiers such as the ATP Challenge Tour and ITF Men’s World Tennis Tour.

He still has a lot of experience as he was a seasoned player with over a decade of playing experience. His best Grand Slam result came in 2010 when he reached the quarterfinals of the Roland Garros in the doubles category.

Riba was hired by Gauff right before the Rothesay International 2023 and has been her coach since then. The duo have since won the Mubadala Citi DC Open 2023 (Washington Open WTA 500), Cincinnati Open 2023, and the most recent US Open 2023.

Brad Gilbert

Gilbert too has had a lot of experience as both player and coach in his career. He turned professional in 1982 and played until 1995 with a 519-288 career record.

He has 20 career singles titles and reached the quarterfinals of both the US Open (1987) and Wimbledon (1990). He reached his highest world ranking of No. 4 in 1990.

Gilbert started his coaching career in 1994 and coached one of the greatest tennis players Andre Agassi. He coached the eight-time Grand Slam winner from 1994 to 2002 and helped Agassi win six of his eight titles as a coach.

Soon after parting ways with Agassi, he became the coach of power server Andy Roddick in 2003. He helped Roddick win the US Open in 2003 and reached the 2004 Wimbledon Final.

Andy Murray is another notable tennis player to have been coached by Gilbert. He coached the three-time major championship winner from 2006 to 2007.

Alex Bogdanovic, Kei Nishikori, and Sam Querrey are other players that Gilbert had taken under his wing before joining hands with Coco Gauff in August 2023.

Although he is not the primary coach, his presence has made a difference and has helped Gauff win three titles since joining the coaching team.

In addition to the two coaches and Jenkins as the hitting partner, Coco Gauff management team is TEAM8 and represents her. Tony Godsick is her agent.

Coco Gauff has won 6 WTA singles titles in her career since turning professional in 2018 including the 2023 US Open. She also has 8 WTA doubles titles.
