Pro football player Chris Hogan joined New England Patriots from the NFL in 2016. He played one season of college football at Monmouth University before turning pro in 2011. However, the talented player was not drafted in the 2011 NFL Draft but was eventually signed by the Buffalo Bills in 2012. After 3 seasons with the Bills, Hogan joined the New England Patriots and in 2017 he helped the Patriots win Super Bowl LI.
Chris Hogan Bio
Christopher James Hogan was born in 1988 on October 24 in Bergen County, New Jersey. He was educated at Ramapo High School where, as a two-sport athlete, he wrote letters about football and lacrosse. Among other highlights of his high school career, Hogan was named New Jersey’s first-ever first-team lacrosse player in his freshman year. He also received first-team national honors in football and lacrosse during his senior year.
For college, Chris Hogan was recruited from Pennsylvania State University as a lacrosse player and there he played 4 seasons and finally graduated in 2010. With only one year of college eligibility, Hogan chose to give football one last shot and so he signed up for the Monmouth Hawks football program at Monmouth University.
Thanks to his natural talents, Hogan quickly earned a spot on the Hawk’s roster during his one-season stint with the team. He played in the receiver and cornerback positions and recorded 12 receptions for 147 yards and 3 touchdowns on offense in addition to 28 tackles and 3 interceptions on defense.
Chris Hogan’s professional career started off on a pretty rough note. After going undrafted in 2011, he was signed by the San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants and Miami Dolphins but was unable to secure a long-term contract with any of the teams. Hogan eventually began his NFL career with the Buffalo Bills in 2012. He was promoted to the Bills’ active roster on December 18, 2012, after spending about a month with the team’s practice squad.
Career Stats and Injury Update
As a rookie in the 2013 NFL season, he went 16 games without a start and caught 10 passes for 83 yards. He had a much better performance in the 2014 season as he posted 41 receptions for 426 yards and 4 touchdowns in 16 appearances and 2 starts. The 2015 season was Hogan’s last with the Bills and he finished the season with 36 receptions for a career-high 450 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Hogan joined the New England Patriots in March 2016 on a three-year contract. The NFL star had a spectacular 2016 season with the Patriots. He started in all but one of his 15 appearances for 2016 and he finished the season with 38 receptions for a career-high 680 yards and 4 touchdowns. The talented player also had a strong performance in the playoffs and on February 5, 2017, he recorded four receptions for 57 yards as the Patriots beat the Atlanta Hawks to win Super Bowl LI.
Chris Hogan performed well for the Patriots in the 2017 season, although his playing time was significantly reduced due to injury. He finished the season with 34 receptions for 439 yards and a career touchdown of 5 touchdowns in 9 total games. He helped the Patriots reach the Superbowl for the second consecutive season, although they were eventually overpowered by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Hogan had a pretty good start to the 2018 NFL season, he hopes to extend his stay with the Patriots beyond his initial 3-year contract.
Unlike the 2017 season when he was sidelined with an injury for about 7 games, Chris Hogan enjoyed a relatively clean state of health during the 2018 NFL season. The NFL star missed practice in October 2018 after a thigh injury, but recovered in time for the Patriots’ Week 6 game against Kansas City. Apparently, Hogan’s future in the NFL hinges heavily on his performance and consistency as he’s injury-free.
The NFL player’s family life
Chris Hogan is married to his college sweetheart Ashley Boccio who is a doctor. The duo met during their days as students at Pennsylvania State University. Interestingly, they were both lacrosse players at the time until Hogan transferred to Monmouth University to play football.
Despite the distance and the challenges of their individual careers, this couple has remained inseparable ever since. Hogan and Boccio got engaged in July 2014 and 3 years later were married; it was July 1, 2017. They have 2 children together, twins Chase and Parker who were born in March 2017.
