Prior to joining BuzzFeed in July 2012, Geidner was the senior political editor at Metro Weekly, D.C.’s LGBT newsmagazine, where he covered Congress, the White House, and the courts. He wrote for Metro Weekly beginning in December 2009, shortly after moving back to the city.
Since then, he has provided some of the most extensive coverage in the country on marriage equality and LGBT workplace issues. From the court challenges to the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and state marriage laws to consideration of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and President Obama’s signing of an executive order banning anti-LGBT discrimination by federal contractors, as well as the repeal of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law, he has been one of the leading reporters in the nation on LGBT issues over the past five years.
His coverage is now more broadly focused on all Supreme Court and other national legal issues while maintaining a focus on LGBT, criminal justice, and election law issues. In addition to the courts, however, he has spent time covering the White House, Congress, the Pentagon, as well as agencies, state governments, and nonprofit organizations.
