Calm was an understatement for Chimanimani – the laughter of young kids enjoying a week off school was the only thing happening on our street.
Dashing to the balcony, our spotlight threw a circle of light on a tiny predator hovering over the nest devouring a tiny, featherless chick.
Click, click as they built their lovely nest, carefully wiping spiders web along the rim, placing lichen carefully around the edges, soft down inside.
Keeping their tiny offspring fed and warm in a cold drizzle or taking moments, admiring them on a warm sunny afternoon.
That afternoon I saw them considering a new nest site and arguing for space with another breeding pair.
