Boudin, was a Marxist theoretician and author of a two-volume history of the Supreme Court’s influence on American government, and his grandfather Leonard Boudin was an attorney who represented controversial clients such as Fidel Castro and Paul Robeson. Boudin is also related to Michael Boudin, a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and Isidor Feinstein Stone, an independent journalist.

Boudin became the district attorney of San Fransisco after Nov 5, 2019, elections that saw him emerge as a winner beating his fellow aspirants. In the race, he faced three candidates, Suzy Loftus, Nancy Tung, and Leif Dautch. At first, the winner was difficult to name the winner of the elections. After several days, on Nov 9, Loftus accepted defeat and the ultimate results ruled out Boudin defeated Loftus by a percentage of 4.6.
Prior to this, Boudin served as a law clerk to the Honorable M. Margaret McKeown. He was a Liman Fellow at the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office 2012–2013. Furthermore, in 2013-2014 he served as a clerk to the Honorable Charles Breyer on the United States District Court.
