After returning to the UK, she took a one-day trial class at the first restaurant of Gordan Ramsey in 1994. She worked with him for over two weeks and got close to him.

Angela Hartnett And Husband Neil Borthwick Age Difference Is 12 Years
Angela Hartnett has a massive age gap of 12 with her husband Neil Borthwick. Neil is 42 years old, whereas his wife is 54 years old as of 2022.
According to The Guardian, Angela was 44 years old, and her husband was 32 years old in 2013.
Despite the difference in their age, the couple seems to be totally in love and inseparable. Since they have the same passion for cooking and both of them are great chefs, they have a common ground to bond over.
The pair’s love for cooking is one of the reasons that has brought them together. They have worked together on various occasions.
Neil and Angela ended up being together and getting married despite their age gap. The couple stated that their story could have been a lot different.
In November 2012, two policemen woke her up at around 1:30 am to let her know that her husband was involved in a cycling incident and was admitted to the Royal London Hospital located in Whitechapel. The police contacted her as she was the last person he had contacted.
The police did not give Angela any details besides telling her that he was alive. After arriving at the hospital, she realized that Neil was in an induced coma and the neurosurgeons were trying to check if he had suffered from brain damage.
Hartnett was shaken by the incident as she had never experienced something like this. Her father had died when she was young and her grandmother had also passed away, but Angela had never seen someone ill in that way.
Neil remembers going for a ride without his helmet as he did not intend to go far. He was kept in a coma for about five days.
After Borthwick finally came around, doctors were shocked by his speedy recovery. He did not have any injuries from his neck down and recognized people immediately.
Within fifteen days of the accident, Neil was able to speak French fluently as he recovered at a rapid rate.
As he did not wear his helmet, Borthwick had a close encounter with death, and the couple almost did not have a happy ending. Meanwhile, Angela remained by her partner’s side throughout the recovery period.
Neil Borthwick Started Working At The Age Of 14
Neil Borthwick had his first job at the young age of 14. Born and raised in Falkirk, Neil initially worked at the Coll Earn House Hotel in Auchterarder.
He trained as a commis chef under Ken McPhee and completed his studies at a catering college in Glasgow.
Later, Borthwick got his first job in a Scottish Michelin-star kitchen named Amaryllis, owned by Gordon Ramsey.
After that, the 42-year-old went to work in France at Laguiole for Michel Bras for about three years. He learned how to get things done precisely and make inventive cuisine.
Neil has worked his way up from a commis chef to a sous chef.
In an interview, Borthwick stated that he loved the work-life balance in France and had become fluent in French. His wife also visited him when he was in France, but they were only friends then. They used to visit various local restaurants.
The restaurant owner wanted Neil to go to Japan to become the head chef at his restaurant. However, he refused the offer as he didn’t want to learn everything all over again. The chef was also already together with his wife; hence, he returned to work at the Square.
In 2013, Neil was appointed as the head chef of the restaurant at Lime Wood hotel in Hampshire, owned by his wife Angela Hartnett.
