Charles McCord Net Worth, Income, Salary, Earnings, Biography

Charles McCord (born c. 1943 in Joplin, Missouri) is a former news anchor and on-air radio personality in the New York metropolitan area who worked in television and radio. He was best known for his role as Don Imus’ right-hand man on Imus in the Morning, which he held for more than three decades. The radio career of McCord began at KICK in Springfield, Missouri in 1963, followed by stops at the now-defunct WFAA in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, the now-defunct WWDC and WTOP in Washington, DC, and the now-defunct WNBC in New York City before joining the station in the early 1970s. He was assigned to work as a news reader for the Monitor’s weekend programme and as Don Imus’s sidekick, among other responsibilities.

When WNBC went out of business and WFAN came on board in 1988, Imus and McCord were both retained. Despite Imus’ departure, McCord remained as the morning show’s news anchor for several months after Imus’ departure. McCord then left WFAN at the end of August when the contract between Imus and WFAN was finalised, marking the end of his thirty-year tenure on the 660 kHz frequency in New York. McCord reunited with Imus for the return of Imus in the Morning on WABC radio on December 3, 2007, when the programme returned to the airwaves. His responsibilities on the Imus programme included news reporting and writing comedy material for celebrity impersonators Larry Kenney and Rob Bartlett, both of whom McCord worked with. In character, he was almost always the straight man, with the exception of the occasional Imus sycophant or antagonist. Mr. McCord announced his retirement in April 2011, and it took effect on May 6. Following McCord’s departure and replacement by the much younger Connell McShane, Imus made a number of comments on the air, implying that the departure had not been amicable. Example: When Imus’ brother Fred passed away approximately three months after McCord left the show, Imus revealed that it was the first time he and McCord had spoken since McCord’s departure from the show. Imus also revealed that McCord had stated that he did not believe Imus would want to speak with him. McCord’s appearance on Imus in the Morning was an unusual reversal; in most cases, Imus favoured McCord, while Imus castigated the rest of his cast far more frequently than he did McCord.
