Men of War, in which Catherine Bell co-starred with Dolph Lundgren, was released in 1994. After experiencing amoebic dysentery, Bell and her co-star Trevor Goddard became close while filming in Thailand.
The next year, Goddard appeared in JAG as Mic Brumby, Bell’s on-again, off-again love interest. Their friendship lasted until Goddard died of a heroin overdose in June 2003, which devastated Bell.
Bell landed a three-line part in a single episode of the NBC TV series JAG in 1995. NBC canceled the show, but it was then taken up by CBS, who made considerable alterations, including the introduction of a female Marine Corps lawyer character named Sarah MacKenzie.
Bell auditioned for and was cast in this role. One edition of the show highlighted MacKenzie’s Iranian-American heritage and included Bell speaking Persian. She played this character till the end of the series in 2005.
