Cassie McCullagh Back With Ex Partner Stephen Fitzpatrick

Cassie McCullagh is happily married to her beloved husband, Stephen Fitzpatrick. Her loving husband is a former indigenous affairs editor at The Australian.

In 2019, the presenter appeared on an episode of Insight on SBS with Jenny Brockie and shared recommencing a relationship with her ex-partner, Stephen, after they had previously broken their eight-year relationship.

While discussing her love journey with Jenny, Cassie revealed that they had two kids by the time they were twenty-five. After that, the pair were acrimoniously separated for about eleven years before reuniting.

Cassie Discussed Her Relationship With Stephen On Insight’s Back With The Ex

Radio presenter Cassie told Jenny Brockie about the moment that brought her and her ex-partner back together after being eleven years apart. Before breaking up, the pair had two kids by the time they reached twenty-five.

She said, “I think it took the extremity of that moment for us both to be changed and also to say, this is it.” Both had a very profound experience, and she says, “It really changed Stephen.” After being apart for 11 years, Cassie met him at his Grandmother’s funeral.

Throughout the day, it was hot, and Cassie could see Stephen was not very well. Later that night, he called her, and she knew it was him. She immediately answered it and said, “What’s wrong?” He replied, “I’m frightened.”

She then raced to his address, called an ambulance, and took him to the hospital. His health was getting worse, and Cassie had started to realize this was not really going very well. She couldn’t stop herself from asking the head nurse about his state.

Soon, he was wheeled in for the surgery. Before operating the surgery, the surgeon said to Cassie, “You two need to say to each other what you have to say to each other.” Devastated Cassie couldn’t say anything. Stephen stepped into the breach and said, “I love you.”

It was the moment where both realized that “this might be it and that we’re at the edge of a cliff and the other side was nothing.” After an acrimonious 11 years apart, Stephen took the plunge and let Cassie know that he loves her. She replied, “I love you too.”

Thankfully, he survived the surgery. Months passed, and the pair felt like there was “an inevitability that maybe we were going to give it another go.” Cassie described the idea as terrifying as all their close ones had been “dragged through hell” for 11 years.

Nevertheless, the pair ended up together after separating for eleven years and are extremely happy. Jenny asked Cassie, “Are you happy together? The presented smiled back and replied, “yeah absolutely.”
