Budweiser to ask FIFA for 45 million after alcohol ban in Qatar

The Sun reports that Budweiser, a World Cup sponsor, will petition FIFA for €45.5 million in compensation because of the ban on alcohol at the tournament.

Many World Cup supporters in Qatar were dismayed that alcohol would not be available anywhere near the venues. However, they are not the primary victims.

One of the World Cup’s sponsors was the beer brand Budweiser. This news did not go down so well, mainly because it came out just days before the tournament began.

Because of this, the American firm is reportedly planning to ask FIFA for €45.5 million in compensation. Alcohol sales were restricted “to the FIFA fan festival, other fan places, and other enclosed spaces” in violation of the agreements between the competition’s organisers and Qatar.

If Budweiser is found to be entitled to compensation, they plan to wait to collect the money. The source claims that the corporation intends to spend the funds on the 2026 FIFA World Cup that will be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
