Dorothy Meyer, a travel agent, and Christopher Meyer, a management consultant, were Breckin’s parents when he was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He was raised in Los Angeles and attended Beverly Hills Elementary School with Drew Barrymore, and Beverly Hills High School with Branden Williams and Joshua John Miller.
Breckin’s agent was introduced to her by Barrymore, and as a result, he began acting in commercials and appearing on the game program Child’s Play (1982).
Breckin made the decision to pursue acting instead of continuing his education after receiving a scholarship at California State University, Northridge.
He may still pursue his lifelong dream of teaching kindergarten in the future. Together with his brother Frank, Breckin played drums with the Streetwalking Cheetahs, who produced a demo in 1995.
