Jessie Diggins is a cross-country skier from The United States who earned the first-ever gold medal for the United States in cross-country skiing at the Winter Olympics in 2018: the women’s team sprint.
Jessie Diggins won silver in the 30km mass start cross-country event, bringing home the United States 25th and final medal of the 2022 Olympic Games.
The marathon took place under comparatively mild 14-degree temps and the kind of slate-blue skies that have typified much of these Games’ Zhangjiakou mountain clusters.
She raced in all six cross country events, finishing in the top eight in each, and is the only woman to do so. She won a bronze in the sprint in addition to her silver.
Diggins finished in 1:26:37.3, one minute and 43 seconds after Johaug, and collapsed weary and triumphant on the snow.
After massaging her back with an American flag until she felt good enough to stand, a Ski Federation official assisted her away from the finish line.
