Angel Acosta Was Born To A Low Income Family

Angel Acosta was born to her mother, María del Carmen Gómez as the seventh of nine siblings. He grew up in the Barrio Obrero neighborhood of San Juan, a low-income working-class neighborhood.

His family was impoverished, which Acosta exploited by becoming engaged in fights at school and on the streets. In late 1999, his elder brother, amateur boxer Luis A. Gómez, saw his conduct and led him to Barrio Obrero’s gymnasium, where he began training in the sport.

According to his Wikipedia, Acosta was a fan of the welterweight triumvirate of Félix Trinidad, Miguel Cotto, and Daniel Santos, as well as Iván Calderón’s technical brilliance.

Acosta’s older brother managed him during his amateur career, unfortunately, he died abruptly in 2005. Eventually, another of his siblings died, and the eldest went to live in another country.

In order to help his mother, he dropped out of seventh grade with the intention of finding a means to earn enough money to renovate an inherited house and restart his education.

Soon after, Acosta became a full-time boxer, challenging himself by training and sparring with larger people, like Erickson Martell. And we are all aware of the journey that he has taken to reach this stage.
