Bree Walker has arrived in Beijing to represent Australia in the Olympic debut of the monobob alone after her boyfriend was not selected to be part of the German Olympic team. Will she be able to bring home a gold medal?
No one would guess from looking at Bree Walker, the world’s fifth-ranked pilot in the sport of monobob, that it was not something she considered doing as a hurdler.
Despite her initial ambitions, Walker won Victoria’s 400-meter hurdles title in 2013. Bree was awarded a full Track and Field scholarship to the University of Arkansas in Little Rock in late 2013 and began college in early 2014.
However, due to an injury and the inability to transfer her degree to an Australian degree, she was forced to terminate her scholarship after one year.
Her injury prompted her to inquire whether Australia had a bobsled team, and when she discovered that it did, she decided to join.
In 2018, Bree won two gold medals in the first women’s monobob event in Lillehammer.
