Bob Halloran Career
Speaking of his career, Halloran joined WCVB, Boston’s News Leader, in 2003 as a freelance anchor/reporter and was appointed to a full-time anchor/reporter position in 2014. Before coming to Channel 5, Bob’s broadcast career included stops at ESPN, WFXT in Boston, and WPRI in Providence, RI. At ESPN, Bob spent three years as an anchor and writer for ESPN.com. And while at Boston’s WFXT-TV Channel 25, Bob served as a weekend sports anchor for three years.
He also spent five years at WPRI-TV in Providence, R.I., as Sports Director and four years at WCVX-TV in Hyannis, Mass., first as Sports Director then moving to News Director. Bob began his career at “Cape 11 Alive,” then a Cablevision station, where he served as a news reporter and anchor.
Bob has written several books including “Count The Rings” which chronicles the first ten New England sports championships of this century and “Irish Thunder: The Hard Life and Times of Micky Ward,” a boxing biography, published in 2007 by Lyons Press, for which he was hired as a technical consultant to the Oscar-nominated movie “The Fighter,” starring Mark Wahlberg as Micky Ward and Christian Bale as Micky’s brother Dicky Eklund.
Other books he’s authored include “Impact Statement: A Family’s Fight for Justice Against Whitey Bulger, “The Fellowship of the No Longer Miserable” go to the Jimmy Fund, Stephen Flemmi and the FBI,” “Breakdown” (2010) and “Destiny Derailed” (2004), a book on the collapse of the Boston Red Sox 2003 playoff run.
Bob has won two Boston/New England Emmy Awards for sportscasting, and two honors from the Associated Press. He has served for ten years on the board for Hearth, a charitable organization determined to end elder homelessness.
