Bernard Membe is well known in Tanzania as a politician. He suddenly passed away on 12 May 2023.
He completed his O Levels at Namupa Seminary Secondary School after attending Rondo-Chiponda Extended Primary School.
He completed his A Levels at Itaga Seminary High School. At the University of Dar es Salaam, he studied political science, and at Johns Hopkins University, he studied international relations.
He served his country for a year in the Oljoro Military Camp in the Arusha Region.
After his predecessor Asha-Rose Migiro was named the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, he was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in January 2007.
He was re-elected in 2012 at the 8th CCM Congress in Dodoma. He has also worked as a member of the National Executive Committee of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi party since 2007.
