“Chocolate fountain splashes, total chaos – such a hot day”

A cozy backyard in Berlin-Mitte. The actor Ben Becker (Berlin Alexanderplatz) has made cakes and cooked coffee. The ashtray is ready. Present are the 51-year-old and his daughter Lilith Becker, 15. Later comes to Ben Becker’s mother Monika Hansen.

Lilith, have you just returned from a school trip?

Lilith Becker : We were at a lake in Saxony-Anhalt, three nights, we had exams before. Unfortunately, beautiful travel is never long enough.

The cliché school trip is: teacher stressed, student out of bounds and tape.

Lilith: The last night I was in bed at half past two, late for my purposes. Others of my age are gone all night. During the day we had a lot of fun: swimming, cycling, visiting the Heide-Park with rollercoaster and carousels.

You dare what?

Lilith: Carousels can not be bad enough, but the roller coaster … I do not like freefall, and the most cool, with loops and stuff, always have a free fall.

Ben Becker: Did you drive the wooden roller coaster?

Lilith: Nah! A few others were also afraid, that does not have to be.

School trip means playing other nasty pranks.

Ben: I do not want to hear that, I’ll go away.

Lilith: We’re out of old age. That would have messed up the nice, quiet mood. I think Daddy’s childhood and mine are very different. Dad, will you come back please?

Ben: I’m coming! My school trips, oh God. We put on police hats and secretly drank sangria. I was a lot wilder than Lilith. Was another time, another school. I flew from high school and just landed in a secondary school in Tempelhof. In the first break, there was something on the face, so then my classmates were on it.

Lilith: You plugged in, but not dealt.

Ben: No, no, nonsense, I got it on my ears and thought, what’s going on? I just wanted to graduate from high school, and I did it. School never interested me. You must know, my early years in Bremen were strictly regulated, although I love my first dad, and when I came to this family of artists in West Berlin …

Her mother was here with actor Otto Sander , who became like a father to you.

Ben: … that was anarchistic terrain. I went to discos at 14, a small, crazy boy. I am very happy that Lilith runs through her high school, even if it is heavy.

Guys like your father are not there, Lilith?

Ben: Can I answer that? No.

Lilith: It’s pretty quiet here.

And you like to learn?

Lilith: Not really, but I do. Okay, I have to learn that now, even if it’s not fun for me. Often I have to force myself to do my homework.

Dad checks that?

Ben: That’s what my wife Anne does. For me, school is still a foreign word. I also hate to go to parent conferences, I do not like that, I prefer to stay out …

Lilith: … although I like to take you with me, the teachers are very different than when mom comes.

Ben: I’ve let too much go by. I had guitar lessons, and when I could not play the Beatles after three hours, I stopped. There was a lack of consistency. That’s why I’m in favor of it: if Lilith starts something, she should continue it. Not today football, tomorrow ballet. Meanwhile, we have agreed on a horse, to my regret the most expensive hobby ever.

Lilith: Driving Formula One would be even more expensive.

Ben: You have a bang. By the way, there is a piano over there, and one day my daughter came to me and said: “Dad, the old woman! I can not anymore. “May I tell that?

Lilith: Mmh.

Ben: So, together with the piano teacher, I was soaking wet. “My daughter can not handle you, she wants to stop.” And the woman said that for pda-go-gi reasons, she would like it well if the daughter makes the last hour. Lilith pinches me and I say no!

Lilith: We were both trembling. The woman once held a fat folder over my hands and said that if you lose your way you can not look at your fingers anymore and you have to find the keys blind. She was so mad that I was scared of her.

Ben: Both of us out and me like this: Ahhh, we are the old one! Lilith exclaimed, “Thanks, daddy, thanks!”

Lilith: She seriously wore socks in flip-flops. Well, after all, I played the piano for ten years …

Ben: … and I have three hours of guitar. It took me until it took a little work to make progress. But I came on it myself and have learned a lot in life. You ride better than I ever could.

Lilith: In October, I’ve been training dressage for five years, and you ride how many again?

Ben: I only trained for a few weeks, at drama school and then for “Trenck – Two Hearts Against the Crown”.

Lilith: I like to take Dad to school if I do not like a teacher.

As a specter?

Ben: Well, well, well.

Lilith: The teachers listen to Daddy well. There was a teacher – oh, I’m sorry if he reads that now! – he wanted us all to be one or two at the end of the term. Then he started to ignore a student, never touched her, did not correct her tests. Later he ignored us all. I told Dad about that and …

Ben: … I jump over the table with guys like that. Can you still remember the story with the peas?

Lilith: Yeah.
