BBC Neil Skinner Missing Update 2023
The 35-year-old Chorley, Lancashire builder is looking for hiker Neil Skinner who vanished close to Bridge of Orchy last year.
Although Phil is the captain of the Beneath the Surface volunteer underwater search and recovery team, he has never met Neil.
Most weekends are spent by his team assisting families in the search for missing loved ones.
Since Neil was reported missing, we have been conducting searches and inquiries to find him, according to Police Scotland Sgt. Karen MacLennan.
On May 8, 2022, Neil, 72, a resident of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, was last seen wearing a green jacket. In Argyll and Bute, he was camped on a peninsula extending into the loch.
Despite intensive searches, he is still unaccounted for. Anyone with knowledge has been urged to contact police.
After learning about the situation last year, Phil contacted Kate Armitage, Neil’s daughter, and volunteered to help as there may have been a loch involved.
Phil set up a social media page to recruit volunteers for a land search of the region where Neil was last seen.
More than 90 people were active on the page, all motivated to locate Neil and uncover the truth behind his abduction.

A new search has been started for a walker who vanished near the Bridge of Orchy last year.
On May 8, 2022, Neil Skinner, 72, of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, was last seen camping near Loch Dochard in Argyll and Bute.
Despite thorough searches, he has not been found, and authorities are asking anyone with information to get in touch.
The family of Mr. Skinner stated last year that they were “desperately seeking answers” as to what had transpired.
To help in the updated search of the isolated hills, Mr. Skinner’s friends and family have teamed up with the specialized search organization Beneath the Surface.
On Saturday and Sunday, a search of the region will be conducted.
It’s absolute torment, his daughter Kate Armitage said in a statement, pleading with anyone with information to call police.
According to Ms. Armitage, her father returned to his tent alone while on a walking tour with two companions after claiming he wasn’t feeling well enough to finish a scheduled hike.
A day later, when his friends returned to their campground, Mr. Skinner was not there, even though his phone, wallet, and all his clothes and walking supplies were in the tent.
She claimed that although his buddies had intended to stay away longer, bad weather forced them to head back sooner to visit Mr. Skinner.
Mr. Skinner was not discovered despite a protracted police search involving helicopters, drones, dive teams, and mountain rescue personnel.
As a year has passed since Mr. Skinner’s disappearance, Ms. Armitage hopes this search effort may contribute to the family’s peace.
