Is Bank Of Dave Real?

Netflix film Bank of Dave is real, to some extent.

According to Radio Times, the film crew has taken some liberties with the truth and spiced up Dave’s story to make it appealing. Of course, for the shake of motion picture adaptation.

Dave’s struggles with the high-street elite banks, his establishment of Burnley Savings and Loans in September 2011, and even his application to make his company an actual bank regulated by the relevant authorities are all true.

The film tells a fabricated story when it shows Dave winning against the British banking system and establishing his own ‘Bank of Dave.’ Unfortunately, he has not quite yet reached the milestone. However, all the roaring success Burnley Savings and Loans has had since its inception is true.

Bank of Dave also fabricates some characters to add drama. The role of Sir Charles Denbigh is fictional, but he does represent the big banks loosely, trying to block Fishwick’s way during the establishment of his brainchild.

Similarly, some incidents are also fabricated. In the film, we can see the rock band Def Leppard playing several of its songs for a fundraiser concert, but this incident never occurred in real life. The only connection with the rock band is that Dave is a huge fan of Def Leppard.

What Happened To Dave Fishwick?

Dave Fishwick became a local superhero overnight with his ‘bank’ changing lives.

Fishwick’s Burnley Savings and Loans operates under the slogan “Bank on Dave.” The private lending firm has helped local businesses thrive over time, and Dave is still working on lobbying the government to bring reforms in the regulated banking sector.

Although he has not been able to obtain a proper banking license and cannot call his brainchild a bank yet, he has helped local people by lending over $30 million since the company’s inception in September 2011, according to The Guardian.

Dave is continuously fighting his battle to become a regulated bank but has not found much luck, contrary to the Netflix movie. We can learn more about Dave’s Burnley Savings and Loans from their website.
